What It Is
Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training involves using specialized cuffs to partially restrict blood flow to muscles during exercise.
Benefits
-
Increases Muscle Strength and Size (Hypertrophy)
-
Helps Prevent Muscle Wasting (Atrophy), Especially Post-Surgery
-
Increases Muscle Recruitment With Less Stress on Joints and Tissues
-
Beneficial for Patients With Pain or Degenerative Conditions
What to Expect
A cuff is placed on the limb being treated, and you’ll perform light weight or body-weight exercises as guided by your physical therapist. During the session, you may notice a strong muscle “pump” as the muscles work under the controlled pressure. Throughout the process, you’ll be safely progressing toward your goal of increasing muscle strength.
